GAFIN FOUNDATION

Background

GAFIN Charitable Foundation is a global organization committed to advancing women and girls in rural communities in Nigeria, Africa, and other developing countries. The organization is deeply committed to ensuring women are empowered as we desire to create gender awareness, promote gender equality and equity, and maximize the potential of women for the overall benefit of their households in particular and society in general. Also, the GAFIN notes with dismay the innumerable challenges faced by women with disabilities in our society. This has become glaring, especially in the area of socio-economic empowerment of these females with special needs.

At GAFIN, we passionately believe that empowering women also gives families the power to succeed. We strive to improve the lives of women and girls in deprived rural areas worldwide. Our mission is for each woman to have access to resources and opportunities that enable them to realize their potential. Through providing access to education, technical skills, and financial services, we hope to promote a future full of possibilities where they can become independent and self-sufficient members of society.

GAFIN recognizes that uplifting one woman has a profound effect on her family, her community, and beyond.

GAFIN seeks to change this story as it’s established to motivate females in rural communities, help them pursue their dreams, and significantly improve their quality of life.

Our History

The founder Dr. Shaba was born and raised in a rural area in Southwest Nigeria, where he spent the first two decades of his life. Growing up in such an environment was quite challenging as most of the dwellers lacked adequate basic amenities to make life comfortable. This saw many families paying more attention to the male children at the expense of the females, and such imbalance led to many females dropping out of school or not attending one at all; females being forced to go into prostitution to cater to their needs; a rise in the number of kids being born out of wedlock as well as some females forced into early marriages. Sadly, their female children also faced these issues, and the devastating cycle continued. As a young boy, all these left an indelible mark on the founder’s mind, and even as a child, he wished female children could be given equal opportunities and empowered for a better life.
